When a vacancy from any cause occurs the remaining council shall, by a majority vote, fill such vacancy. Marly Hazen, Fourth Ward Councilor, recently announced her resignation from this position effective June 30, 2019. Following a protocol adopted by council in 2016, a resolution was passed at the June 18 council meeting, announcing the vacancy and the period during which applications will be accepted from individuals interested in being appointed to the seat for the remainder of the unexpired term.
Beginning at 8:00 a.m. today, June 19th, resumes and letters of interest may be submitted to City Clerk Jessica Sutton via email (firstname.lastname@example.org), or delivered by mail or in person to 401 Davis Ave., Elkins, W.V. 26241. The deadline for submission is 4:30 p.m. July 1, 2019. The applications will be screened by the clerk for statutory requirements, including residency in the fourth ward and eligibility to vote in the municipal election. Eligible applicants will then be contacted by the clerk and scheduled for an interview the week of July 8th. To learn more about city council, click here.
