Tell DOH: Build the bridges, bring the Allegheny Highlands Trail downtown!

The Allegheny Highlands Trail (AHT) trailhead is now in downtown Elkins, at the Elkins Depot Welcome Center.

But how will AHT users get across North Randolph Avenue/U.S. Rt. 219 and Harrison Avenue?

One plan, proposed several years ago, would be the installation of an “on-demand” (button-activated) walk signal and crosswalk.

Again and again, though, similar designs on other trails have been seen to scare away children, seniors, and people of limited mobility. Think about it: would you let your children cross Harrison AND Randolph, even with an on-demand walk signal? How about someone in a wheelchair, or someone who isn’t moving as fast as they used to?  (more…)

__________

* “Calls” are requests for an officer’s services or assistance. “Cases” are all calls and/or situations observed by an officer in which there is evidence of a crime having been committed; the number of cases shown in this table is only those with an initial “call” or report date during the given month. “Arrests” are the number of people arrested in the given month. Because one individual may be arrested for multiple crimes, we also report the total number of “violations by arrestees.”

No, it’s not your imagination: this site has definitely changed since your last visit. We have reorganized the site and introduced several new features to make it easier for you to find the information you need:

  • The “How Do I” pull-down menu on the left side of each page
  • The “sliders” in the middle of the home page, which we’ll use to share seasonal information
  • A new “Alerts” feature that will appear on every page, for sharing information about things like water interruptions, weather closures, etc.)
