2015 Municipal Election

The 2015 municipal election for the city of Elkins will be March 3, 2015. On that date, a mayor will be elected for a two-year term and one council member from each of the city's five wards will be elected for four-year terms. For a list of candidates, click here

Polling Places

On Election Day (March 3, 2015), polling places will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Persons in line at 7:30 p.m. will be allowed to cast their votes.

What Should I Bring?

If your most recent voter registration was by mail and you have not yet provided identification to an election official, you must either (1) provide one of the following forms of identification showing your name and current address or (2) vote a provisional ballot.

  • Current/valid photo ID
  • Current utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Paycheck
  • Government check or other official government document

Absentee Ballots

For information from the West Virginia Secretary of State regarding absentee voting, click here. Please note that the election official for a municipal election is the city clerk, not the county clerk. Except for voter registration materials, all election-related paperwork (for City of Elkins elections) should be submitted to:

To download an absentee ballot application customized for the city of Elkins, click here. This application must be completed by hand (not typed), signed, and returned to the Elkins city clerk either in person, or by mail, fax, or email (scanned). Absentee ballot applications must be received by the Elkins city clerk no later than 4 p.m. on February 25, 2013.

New: For the first time in Elkins municipal elections, you may track your absentee ballot online here.

Please note that people voting absentee for the following reasons must receive their absentee ballots at an address outside of Elkins:

  • Personal or business travel on Election Day
  • Attendance at a college or university away from Elkins
  • Military member stationed away from Elkins
  • Service as elected/appointed federal/state officer or other employment outside of Elkins of specific duration of four years or less

Early Voting

Early in-person voting will be offered at City Hall, 401 Davis Avenue:


  • February 18-28


  • Monday-Friday: 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
