The Water Treatment Plant provides clean drinking water to about 4,000 customer locations inside city limits as well as to the customers of its resale distributors, the Midland and Leadsville Public Service Districts. In 2015, a project will begin to replace the current plant, which is about 100 years old. For more information about that project, click here.

We take the safety of the water we produce very seriously. All water-treatment and water-distribution operations are performed in strict compliance with regulations imposed by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The water that leaves our plant is of the highest purity. To further safeguard city water customers, we also perform spot-testing at various locations around the city on a regular basis.
The Elkins City Water Department has established a 24-hour Drinking Water Bulletin Board through which residents in the city may obtain information regarding the condition of their drinking water following waterline breaks and other emergencies. Please call: 304-637-3582.
Water information alerts also appear on the homepage of this website and the city’s Facebook page. We also send them out via the city’s informational email list (sign up in the form in the left sidebar of this page).
