Tygart Valley River Cleanup

Due to rain in the forecast for this week, we believe the best course of action at this point is to cancel this year’s River Cleanup, which was scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd. While the goal of keeping our river in the best condition possible is a priority for all of us, the safety and welfare of our volunteers must be our first priority. We appreciate all those individuals and organizations that have volunteered to help with this effort, and will look forward to next year’s event.

The Tygart Valley River is the source for our drinking water. It is also a magnet for litter and trash. Every year, on a Saturday in early spring, the city sponsors a cleanup event. Participants are supplied with bags and other equipment, and spend the morning picking up trash from the river banks. The event concludes with a free lunch at Riverbend Park.
