Early Voting Starts for City of Elkins Municipal Election

Elkins, WV, May 28, 2025: Election Day for the 2025 Elkins Municipal Election is Tuesday, June 10, but early in-person voting began today, Wednesday, May 28. Elkins voters from all five wards can cast early ballots at the modular building housing Municipal Court in the parking lot behind City Hall, closest to Fourth Street. Early voting ends Saturday, June 7. 

During this period, the early voting site will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. While the City Hall building is closed for renovations, directional signs are posted on Davis Avenue and 4th Street to help voters find the early voting site in the parking lot behind City Hall. 

Because the early voting site is not wheelchair accessible, voters with mobility issues have the option to vote curbside. Alternatively, these voters may want to wait to vote until Election Day (June 10), when this building will not be in use, and all five wards’ polling places will be more accessible to those with mobility limitations. These voters may also have the option of voting an absentee ballot by mail. To utilize curbside voting, voters should park in the handicap parking spot directly next to the early voting building and ring the doorbell located on the stairwell. Poll workers will then assist the voter in following the curbside voting process.

Curbside voting is available during the 2025 municipal election.

Elkins City Clerk Sutton Stokes explains that the curbside voting process will take longer than it takes to cast a regular ballot inside the polling place. 

“We’re ready to provide curbside voting assistance to anyone who needs it, but everyone needs to understand that state law imposes a few extra steps, so there may be a longer wait,” he says. “Under state law, curbside voters must complete an absentee ballot application before they can be issued a ballot, which we will supply. Also, the election workers can only start the curbside voting process once there are no voters in the polling place. So, I would recommend allowing at least twenty minutes to complete the curbside voting process, starting when the poll workers first come out to your vehicle.” 

Stokes reminds voters to have patience, as state and local laws require that poll workers follow detailed steps to ensure a secure election. 

“Although our goal is to process every voter as quickly as possible, we aren’t going to rush or cut corners,” he explains. “I hope everyone will remember that voting is the very foundation of our democracy, so it is worth taking the time to get it right.”
