Vacant Property Registration

In order to protect public safety and support code enforcement efforts, vacant properties in Elkins must be registered with the Code Enforcement Officer.

Fees
Owners of vacant properties are charged annual fees as follows. Please note that the fee is based on number of years vacant, regardless of changes in ownership. However, number of years vacant is counted from the date of registration.
- Less than 1 year: $0
- 1 year: $200
- 2 years: $400
- 3 years: $600
- 4 years: $800
- 5 years: $1,600
- More than five years: $1,600 + $300 for each year more than five years (e.g., a property vacant for seven years would incur a charge of $2,200, or $1,600 + $300 + $300)
