Christmas Tree Disposal for 2024

Elkins W. Va., December 29, 2023: The City of Elkins has modified its Christmas tree collection program for January 2024. A self-serve drop-off area will be offered at the Street Department during the month of January. Curbside pickup will also be available for those who cannot bring their own trees to the drop-off area.

In years past, the Street Department provided curbside pickup of Christmas trees throughout January and part of February. This year, to enable the Street Department to focus on higher-value work like stormwater management and planning, members of the public are being encouraged to transport their own trees to the Street Department Garage (1 Baxter Street). Please leave trees in the drop-off area marked with yellow caution tape.

For citizens unable to transport their own trees to the drop-off area, the Street Department will offer limited curbside pickup from January 2 through January 12. Pickup will occur during the Street Department’s regular operating hours, 6:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Because tree pickup must be performed as other work duties allow, trees might not be collected on the first day they are placed curbside.

Curbside pickup will not be offered after January 12. After January 12, all trees must be transported to the Street Department Garage for disposal.

Please ensure trees are free of ornaments, decorations, lights, tinsel, or any similar items. Trees that are not free of these items will not be picked up curbside and cannot be accepted at the Street Department drop-off area.

Though we are continuing to provide Christmas tree pick up service as done in the past, we encourage all residents to drop their trees off at the designated location to enable the Street Department to focus on higher-value work for the city.
