Housing Authority of the City of Elkins

The Housing Authority of the City of Elkins manages Gateway Apartments.

This board meets at an as-needed basis. For any questions, please contact Gateway Apartments’ property management company at 304-636-8888.

Municipal housing authorities in WV are independent public agencies created under WV Code §16-15 to provide affordable housing and address substandard living conditions. Established by city or county resolution, they are governed by an appointed board and operate separately from local governments.

Their powers include:

  • Building, owning, and managing low-income housing
  • Receiving federal/state funds (e.g., HUD)
  • Issuing bonds and setting rents
  • Acquiring and redeveloping property

Though created by municipalities (this housing authority was created in the early 1960s), this housing authority operates independently from the City of Elkins.
