Regional Task Force on Homelessness, Addiction, and Mental Health

This page has information on how the City of Elkins is partnering with governments and organizations in North Central West Virginia to address the homelessness and addiction crises.

What is this task force trying to accomplish?

In 2021, local leaders formed the Regional Task Force on Homelessness, Addiction, and Mental Health to coordinate a comprehensive response to these interconnected challenges.   This task force focuses on three primary objectives:

  • Substance Use Disorder Support – Expanding prevention and treatment resources.
  • Homelessness Services – Identifying and coordinating support for unhoused individuals.
  • Mental Health Access – Improving availability of mental health resources.

By bringing together stakeholders from across the region, the task force works to eliminate duplication of services while identifying gaps in the current system. This coordinated approach ensures more efficient use of available resources to address these critical community needs.

This task force holds monthly meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month at the Phil Gainer Community Center, usually at 1:00. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Information on the funds that the City of Elkins has received from the nationwide opioid settlement is here.
