Snow Plowing

When shoveling your driveway, please place snow to the right side of your driveway as you are facing the street (or past your driveway, in the direction of traffic flow, on one-way streets). This will prevent the bulk of the snow from being pushed back into your driveway. Snow should never be placed in the street as this creates hazardous driving conditions and causes the City’s snowplow to push it back in front of your driveway.

The City of Elkins will plow the streets in a specific order to ensure that emergency vehicles can navigate through the City, main roads will be plowed first. During a severe weather event, city crews may need to repeatedly clear main roads.

The City of Elkins would like to remind business owners and citizens that city code requires property owners to remove snow and ice from sidewalks in front of their properties. Please imagine how dangerous it is for elderly, disabled, or parents with strollers to navigate unshoveled sidewalks.
