The GIS Department is housed within the city’s Operations Department and provides maps, reports, and analytical data in support of the city’s utilities, public services, and other city departments and functions.
The term “geographic information system” (GIS) refers to specialized hardware, software, and personnel organized for the purpose of gathering, managing, and analyzing data. Connected to the science of geography, GIS obtains insights by integrating geographic with other categories of data. GIS can be used to analyze spatial location and organize layers of information into visualizations using maps and 3D scenes.
