Breaking Ground for New Sanitation Garage in Elkins
Elkins W. Va., May 30, 2024: The City of Elkins is proud to announce the groundbreaking of a new sanitation garage to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the city’s Sanitation Department. This much-needed facility will house essential equipment, feature a wash basin, and provide various amenities to better support the sanitation team.
The new sanitation garage project, with an estimated cost of $1.448 million, received final approval during the council meeting on March 7, 2024. The contractor has been given a timeline of 240 days to complete the project.
“We were leasing a building for a substantial amount of money each month, that we (the city) would never own or see a return on our investment,” said Mike Kesecker, Operations Manager for the City of Elkins. “The building needed repairs as well. Instead of investing money into a building the city doesn’t own, it makes more sense to invest our funds into property that will be used for years to come.”
