Captain Ron Corcoran Celebrates Retirement from the City of Elkins
Elkins W. Va., May 30, 2024: The Elkins Fire Department recently hosted a celebration to honor Captain Ronald Corcoran on his retirement after 34 1/2 years of dedicated service to the City of Elkins. The event, held at the Elkins Fire Department, brought together friends, family, and colleagues to pay tribute to a man who has been a cornerstone of the community.
Captain Corcoran’s career began in the Sanitation Department, where he served for 4 1/2 years. His commitment to public service then led him to the Elkins Fire Department, where he spent the next 30 years as a firefighter, captain, mentor, and cherished friend.
The retirement party was a day filled with food, cake, happiness, and fond memories. Many of those in attendance reminisced about Captain Corcoran’s many contributions and the positive impact he has had on those around him. Throughout the event, several notable individuals delivered heartfelt speeches congratulating Captain Corcoran.
“I get the privilege of honoring Ron today,” said Mayor Jerry Marco from the City of Elkins. “I wasn’t here from the very beginning, but for the past 3 years it has been a privilege sir. Obviously, you are very well respected in the first responder community. You do it, your family does it. You’ve given so many years of service to our community, that words aren’t enough to thank you.”
In recognition of his outstanding service, Captain Corcoran was presented with a special plaque and trophy, in recognition of his dedicated service. The celebration honored Captain Corcoran’s remarkable career. His legacy as a dedicated public servant and beloved figure within the Elkins Fire Department will be remembered for many years to come.
Elkins Fire Chief Steve Himes stated, “I’ve had the privilege of working with Ron for almost 22 years. Ron is the longest tenure, current city employee for 34 ½ years of service. He worked for 4 ½ years in Sanitation and spent the last 30 in the Fire Department. Over that time period, he has worked for 7 mayors and 7 fire chiefs.”
“Ron has first and foremost been a friend to all of us,” he continued, “he goes out of his way to help others. He might be putting a roof on, delivering an appliance, pouring concrete, or going hunting and fishing. He’s also a teacher. He has taught many of us who have come through the doors how to do this job. In addition to that, one can learn a lot from Ron in other ways. If you think you want to learn how to be a good person, a helpful neighbor, or a great dad; look no further.”
On behalf of the City of Elkins, we want to thank you, Captain Ronald Corcoran, for your 34 1/2 years of exemplary service. Your contributions have made a lasting impact on our community, and we wish you all the best in your retirement.
