Celebrating Elkins Businesses: Milestones and Ribbon Cuttings
You’ve written the business plan. You secured the line of credit. You signed the lease. You’ve announced your plans on social media. You spent sleepless nights figuring out vendors, your space’s layout, and who to hire. The first day of business approaches. You deserve a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Or, perhaps it’s your second, fifth, or twentieth year of business. Milestones matter: You deserve recognition. The City of Elkins is ready to celebrate your accomplishment.
To that end…
The City of Elkins is proud of its growing business community and is committed to supporting local economic development. To that end, we’re excited to celebrate the opening of new companies, with examples being “Main Street businesses,” (such as stores and restaurants) professional services, and branch offices of larger companies.
And yes, when we say “celebrate,” we mean a ribbon-cutting ceremony—complete with the City’s oversized scissors, perfect for marking the occasion (and for great photos!). Generally, the Elkins-Randolph County Chamber takes the lead on that role; the City is pleased to partner with the Chamber on such efforts.
The City of Elkins also honors significant anniversaries of existing businesses, recognizing their lasting contributions to our community.
For these events, city employees will work with business owners to arrange for a local official—such as the mayor or a council member—to participate. Additionally, the business will receive a commemorative certificate, and the event will be promoted on the City’s social media channels.
While our External Affairs Office will share photos and event details with local media, we cannot guarantee coverage in print, radio, or television.
How to Request a Ceremony
To ensure smooth planning, business owners should submit requests at least five business days before the proposed event date. Requests should be sent to the mayor’s office via email (or U.S. mail) and include the following:
- Contact Information: First and last name, address, email, and phone number of the event coordinator.
- Business Details: A brief summary of the business and the reason for the ceremony (e.g., grand opening, milestone anniversary).
- Event Details: The proposed date, time, and location of the ceremony.
The City of Elkins looks forward to celebrating the achievements of our local businesses and their vital role in strengthening our community.
