2019 Municipal Election

The 2019 municipal election for the city of Elkins will be held March 5, 2019. On that date, a mayor will be elected for a two-year term and one council member from each of the city’s five wards will be elected for four-year terms. On Election Day (March 5, 2019), polling places will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Persons in line at 7:30 p.m. will be allowed to cast their votes.

Ward 2: Mountain State Forest Festival Building (101 Lough Street)
Ward 3: Day’s Inn (1200 Harrison Avenue)
Ward 4: Randolph County Courthouse Annex (4 Randolph Avenue)
Ward 5: Elkins City Hall (401 Davis Avenue)

What Should I Bring?
Effective January 1, 2018, voters must show a form of identification to vote in person during the Early Voting Period or on Election Day in any election. There are several forms of acceptable photo and non-photo identification, however none may be expired to be considered. Following are several examples, for a complete list, including three exceptions, go to the WV Secretary of State’s guide.
WV driver’s license or other WV ID card issued by the DMV
Voter registration card
Bank statement or utility bill issued in the last six months
Student ID card
WV SNAP ID card

Except for voter registration materials, all election-related paperwork (for City of Elkins elections) should be submitted to:

To download an absentee ballot application customized for the city of Elkins, click here. This application must be completed by hand (not typed), signed, and returned to the Elkins city clerk either in person, or by mail, fax, or email (scanned). Absentee ballot applications must be received by the Elkins city clerk no later than 4 p.m. on February 27, 2019.
Please note that people voting absentee for the following reasons must receive their absentee ballots at an address outside of Elkins:
Personal or business travel on Election Day
Attendance at a college or university away from Elkins
Military member stationed away from Elkins
Service as elected/appointed federal/state officer or other employment outside of Elkins of specific duration of four years or less
