Elkins, WV, October 2, 2025: The City of Elkins continues to ask residents to sign up for emergency alerts. Residents with mobile phones can receive important alerts including weather warnings and water outages. They will also receive reminders about changes to city services due to holidays. Alternative Transportation Options
The City of Elkins reminds residents that Country Roads Transit runs two routes throughout Elkins Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Please read https://cityofelkinswv.com/CRT/ for more information; you may also call 304-636-6472 or 1-877-636-6472.
Sanitation Department Updates
The City’s Sanitation Department announces that for October 2025, the free monthly bulk item pickup (one large item, such as an appliance, TV, or mattress) schedule is as follows:
For October:
- Monday: Monday, October 6
- Tuesday: Tuesday, October 14
- Wednesday: Wednesday, October 15
- Thursday: Thursday, October 23
- Friday: Friday, October 24
This free service is for ONE ITEM only, such as an appliance, TV, mattress, or piece of furniture.
To schedule and pay for a Special Trash Pickup, such as a truck bed- or dumpster-sized load, please call 304.636.1414, ext. 1437.

Operations Department Updates
Street sweeping ended on Thursday, October 2. Leaf collection will start on Monday, October 13. More information is here: https://cityofelkinswv.com/leaf-collection
The yard waste container on Baxter St. is closed and will reopen on Monday, October 6.
City Hall Business
The next Elkins City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 16, at 7:00 p.m.
The following committees will hold meetings on Monday, October 6:
- Joint Personnel and Finance committees: 1:00 p.m. They will discuss a proposed classification and compensation plan for the City, as well as the reappointment of the City Treasurer.
- Rules and Ordinances: 3:30 p.m. Discussion include making changes in council’s rules.
- Water Board: 4:00 p.m. The agenda is not posted as of press time.
All City Hall meetings are held at the Phil Gainer Community Center, 142 Robert E. Lee Avenue Extension, in Elkins, unless noted otherwise.

The City Hall building at 401 Davis Avenue has been closed for renovation since September 2024. Contractors are now working on a $4.1 million project to repair and prevent future damage from flooding; install modern HVAC systems; improve safety, accessibility, and security; and update and modernize workspaces.

Utility and in-city fire fee bills were mailed on September 30 and are due October 20. 2025 3rd Quarter B&Os were mailed out on September 26 and are due October 31. Utility shut-offs are scheduled for October 7 for unpaid water bills that were due September 18.
