City Hall News: Week of May 25, 2025

Elkins, WV, May 23, 2025: There are no public meetings for Elkins City Council, its committees, or other governing bodies until Monday, June 2, 2025.

All city offices are closed on Monday, May 26 in observation of the Memorial Day holiday. Garbage normally picked up on Monday (May 26) will be scheduled the morning of Tuesday (May 27) beginning at 6:00 a.m. On this coming Monday, the city street sweeper will only run on North Randolph Avenue and will not run in residential areas.

Again starting Tuesday, May 27, city departments are operating and available for service as usual, but in-person appointments will require advance arrangements. All City meetings are still scheduled at the Phil Gainer Community Center (142 Robert E. Lee Ave. Extension) unless otherwise stated.

Upcoming City Council and Committee meetings, along with their agendas and locations, can be viewed here: https://elkinswv.portal.civicclerk.com/

A city election is scheduled for June 10. Early voting will be on the grounds of City Hall from May 28 to June 7, at the temporary Municipal Court on 4th Street, adjacent to the main building. City employees will place signage each day during early voting so it is clear to residents where they can cast their ballots. For this election, one council member from each of the city’s five wards will be elected to four-year terms. In Wards 1-3, the incumbents are the only candidates on the ballot. Wards 4 and 5 have contested races. There is no race for mayor in the 2025 election, as the current mayor’s term does not expire until 2027.
