Elkins Unites for Healing on National Save a Life Day

The community of Elkins will host an event in recognition of Save a Life Day, which will be observed nationwide on Thursday, September 25, 2025. The event, which focuses on education about substance use disorder and community resources for recovery, occurs at City Park from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Safe a Live Day event will include stories from community members, information from local organizations, access to public health resources, food, and live music from the band  Ask Alice.

Save a Life Day is a national initiative that first launched in West Virginia five years ago. According to the event’s organizers, SOAR WV, this day’s mission is to make life-saving naloxone accessible, reduce stigma associated with substance use disorder, and celebrate recovery. This local event, again organized by local Peer Recovery Support Specialist Markie Jeffries, is part of a broad national effort.

A number of local agencies and organizations will be present in City Park to provide information on available services.  As of press time, participating groups are scheduled to include:

  • The DHHR and the local health department
  • Elkins Police Department
  • United Way
  • Valley Health Care
  • Legal Aid WV
  • Randolph Tucker Children’s Advocacy Center

The national observance of Save a Life Day will involve events across all 50 states. According to the event’s organizing foundation, SOAR WV, more than 650 community events were held in 2024.
