Elkins Mayor Extends Heartfelt Congratulations to Zan White on His Remarkable 100th Birthday
Elkins W. Va., February 5, 2024: Mayor Jerry Marco made a special visit on Saturday, February 3, to extend his warmest congratulations to local resident Zan White, who celebrated his 100th birthday on February 2. The mayor, along with friends and family, wanted to recognize a century of wisdom, resilience, and inspiring accomplishments that have marked Mr. White’s remarkable journey through life.
“I just want to express my gratitude for the invitation to commemorate this momentous occasion with Mr. White and his family”, stated Mayor Marco. “He has had an extraordinary life and has left an indelible mark on our city.”
Zan White, born in Job, WV, is the youngest of nine children. His upbringing in a unique environment, with his father in charge of the county jail and his mother cooking for the prisoners while taking care of Mr. White as a child, shaped the foundation of his character. Mr. White attended local schools in Job and in Elkins, and his journey continued with service during World War II, followed by earning an electrical engineering degree from West Virginia University. His professional career led him to various states, where he worked for the C & P Telephone company up until his well-deserved retirement.
Robert White, Zan’s youngest son, shared the details of his father’s life and extended an invitation to Mayor Marco to join the family’s celebration on Saturday. The gathering included three generations of the White family, with 17 family members traveling from Maryland, Georgia, New York, and Florida.
