Elkins City Hall News: Week of March 11, 2024

Elkins W. Va., March 8, 2024: The Municipal Properties Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Planning Commission meet the week of March 11.

The Municipal Properties Committee meets Monday at 11:00 a.m. Items on the agenda include: discussion of downtown parking, including a proposed elimination of no-parking zone on South Davis Avenue near Riverview Apartments and a proposed elimination of no-parking zone in front of the former T-Mart; consideration of terms of lease with Tygart Hotel for reserved loading/unloading on Davis Avenue; planning for TIF project identification and management; discussion on the Kump House grant; discussion on the Veterans Park; discussion of the Police Department parking lot; and proposal to designate the Police Department Office as the Paige Marstiller/Robert Lilly Memorial Police Station.

The Finance Committee meets Monday at 1:00 p.m. Items on the agenda include: discussion of FY 2025 budget; D&E camera-system funding request; Phil Gainer Community Center gym roof repair/re-roof quotes; and budget revisions.

The Planning Commission meets Thursday at 3:30 p.m. to continue work on updating the city’s Comprehensive Plan.

Utility bills and fire fee bills were mailed out February 29 and are due March 19.

Daylight Savings is Sunday, March 10. The Elkins Fire Department wants to remind everyone to change out the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. The Police Department is hiring and will offer entry-level testing on March 30. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on March 22, and applicants must be between the ages of 18-45 on the day of testing.
