Elkins City Hall News: Week of April 1, 2024

Elkins W. Va., March 28, 2024: The Public Safety Committee, the Personnel Committee, the Rules & Ordinances Committee, and City Council meet the week of April 1.

The Public Safety Committee meets Monday at 10:00 a.m. Items on the agenda include a discussion on Boundary Avenue traffic safety ​and pedestrian crossing safety.

The Personnel Committee meets Monday at 1:00 p.m. Items on the agenda include changes to the Human Resources Generalist and Communication Specialist positions.

The Rules & Ordinances Committee meets Monday at 3:30 p.m. Items on the agenda include a proposal to establish a TIF Advisory Committee and a proposal to create Private Outdoor Designated Areas (PODA). A PODA is an outdoors public area where liquor, wine, nonintoxicating beer, and nonintoxicating craft beer may be consumed under certain guidelines, as enabled by state law.

City Council meets Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The agenda may be adjusted through Tuesday. Items on the agenda include the reappointment of R. Nestor to the Elkins Parks and Recreation Commission and consideration of any items recommended out of Monday’s two committee meetings.

Utility and in-city fire fees bills were mailed on March 28 and are due April 17. Utility shutoffs are scheduled for April 8.

The 2024 street sweeper season begins on April 8. Tickets will be issued for street-sweeper parking violations starting May 6.

The City of Elkins is urging residents to sign up for its new mass notification system, named WENS, which is aimed at strengthening emergency communication capabilities within the community. This system will enable the city to disseminate crucial information to the public quickly and efficiently during urgent and emergency situations.
