City Hall News: Week of October 25, 2021

Meeting this week are council’s Special Hiring Committee, the Elkins Water Board, and the Elkins Planning Commission. The Treasurer’s Department will close for one hour on Thursday.

The Special Hiring Committee meets Tuesday at 10 a.m. This committee was formed to manage the hiring of a new operations manager. In addition to updating the relevant job description, the committee is also reviewing the city’s organizational chart to determine what changes may help further improve the functioning of the Operations Department. After these steps have been completed, the committee will officially advertise the position as open and begin accepting applications.

The Water Board meets Tuesday at 4 p.m. to work on the following agenda items: presentation of invoices for approval; Water Distribution Department staffing; Water Distribution Department employee compensation; and a Water Distribution Department personnel matter.

The Treasurer’s Office will be closed Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. for staff training. No business will be transacted as the customer service windows will be closed during this time. Customers wishing to use drop off payments can use the secure drop box, which has been relocated from Fourth Street to its new, permanent location in the parking lot behind city hall.

Meeting virtually Thursday at 1 p.m., the Planning Commission continues work to update the city’s zoning laws, which were adopted in the 1950s and have not been significantly updated since the 1970s. At this meeting, the commission will consider which zoning districts should permit docks and what the front setback requirement should be in the Central Business District. The commission will also plan a public open house concerning the proposed zoning ordinance, currently scheduled for November 17. Log-in information is here: www.cityofelkinswv.com/council-and-committee-meetings.

Unless otherwise stated, all meetings are at Elkins City Hall (401 Davis Avenue).
