Elkins City Hall News: Week of January 15, 2024

Elkins W. Va., January 12, 2024: The Sanitary Board, the Planning Commission, and City Council meet the week of January 15.

The Sanitary Board meets Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Items on the agenda include: discussion on replacement/repair of water and sewer lines in the City of Elkins; Phase III Project updates and discussion; discussion of Wastewater Collection storage building bids; approval of Sewer Invoices; approval of Elkins Wastewater Plant Laboratory price guide and rates; and consideration of petition of the Sanitary Board to City Council requesting the issuance of Sewer Revenue Bonds in an amount not to exceed $250,000 for the purposes of financing a new garage for the Sanitary Sewer System of the City of Elkins.

The Planning Commission meets Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The agenda may be adjusted through Tuesday. Items on the agenda include: Comprehensive Plan updates; discussion of an unzoned parcel near North 12^th Street; and discussion of signs in the City of Elkins.

City Council meets Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The agenda may be adjusted through Tuesday. Items on the agenda include: recognition of Municipal Judge R. Jones; presentation by both Woodlands Development & Lending and by the Elkins Tree Board; Resolution 1711: appointing R. Carr to the Elkins Sanitary Board; Resolution 1712: appointing V. Broughton and C. Tribble to the Elkins Building Commission; Resolution 1713: approving changes to employee PEIA benefits for fiscal year 2025; receiving recommendations of zoning for an unzoned parcel near North 12^th Street; and Ordinance 320: abandoning a portion of an opened alley near 11^th Street (first of two readings).

City Hall will be closed January 15 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Garbage pickup will continue its normal operating schedule for the week.

In-city fire fees and utility bills were mailed out on December 29 and are due January 17.

Fourth Quarter B&Os and 2023 Annual B&Os were mailed out on December 29 and are due January 31.

There have been changes to the city’s Christmas tree disposal program for January 2024. Curbside pickup is no longer available, and members of the public must bring their own trees to a drop-off site at the Street Department Garage (1 Baxter Street) effective January 15. Please ensure trees are free of ornaments, decorations, lights, tinsel, and similar items.
