Elkins City Hall News: Week of March 4, 2024

Elkins W. Va., March 1, 2024: The Personnel Committee, the Rules & Ordinances Committee, the Tree Board, the Finance Committee, and City Council meet the week of March 4.

The Personnel Committee meets Monday at 1:00 p.m. Items on the agenda include a discussion of a plan for deposits in employee PEIA Plan C Health Savings Accounts (FY 2025) and reappointment of the city attorney.

The Rules & Ordinances Committee meets Monday at 3:30 p.m. Items on the agenda include: revisions of city code concerning meeting frequency for the Board of Zoning appeals and the Planning Commission; revision of city code concerning council meetings; and discussion of cats at large.

The Tree Board meets Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Items on the agenda include: DOF Equitree Grant 2024 (due April 1); AARP Grant; discussion on tree pruning; discussion on Arbor Day; discussion on Earth Day; and discussion of workshops.

The Finance Committee meets Thursday at 1:00 p.m to continue work on the budget for Fiscal Year 2025.

City Council meets Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The agenda may be adjusted through Tuesday. Items on the agenda include: final reading of an ordinance authorizing the issuance of Sewer Revenue Bonds to fund the construction of a new garage at the Wastewater Treatment Plant; final reading of an ordinance authorizing the Elkins Building Commission to issue Lease Revenue Bonds to fund the construction of a new building for the Sanitation Department; final readings of ordinances amending city laws concerning door-to-door solicitors and electronic signs; and the reappointment of the city attorney.

Utility bills and fire fee bills were mailed out February 29 and are due March 19. Past due bills that remain unpaid are scheduled for shut off on March 6.

The Police Department is hiring and will offer entry-level testing on March 30. Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on March 22, and applicants must be between the ages of 18-45 on the day of testing.
