Intermittent Traffic on S. Davis Ave. Begins Tuesday

Elkins W. Va., February 22, 2024: Intermittent traffic at 924 S. Davis Ave. in Elkins, WV, will begin Tuesday, February 27, 2024, as work begins on the demolition of a structure at this address. Though the road will not be closed completely, travelers can expect delays throughout the week as work crews on-site may temporarily stop the flow of traffic to provide safety during critical moments of the demolition.

The demolition project at 924 S. Davis Ave. is part of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) Dilapidated Properties Program (DLAP), which aims to support municipalities in removing structures, that often pose safety, economic, environmental, and financial challenges to cities and towns.

Elkins, under DLAP, received a $300,000 grant on June 27, 2022, as one of 21 participants in the pilot phase—a significant increase from its previous annual budget of $50,000—enabling the removal of more structures throughout the city.

924 S. Davis Ave. is one of the last two structures to be taken down during this initial phase of the program before final reports are sent off to the WVDEP in April. The City of Elkins has been able to remove nine other unsightly structures from the city since the program’s inception and has identified fourteen additional structures that urgently require demolition. The next phase of the program begins this year, and the city is optimistic about the possibilities for continued collaboration with WVDEP to address its community’s needs.
