Zoning

Elkins Zoning Map

The Elkins zoning code was updated via ordinance on August 18, 2022.

ARPA Funds

In March 2021, Elkins learned that it would receive $3,084,933 in federal American Rescue Project Act (ARPA) Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (FRF).

Riverfront Plan

Tygart River

To unlock the Tygart River’s potential for recreation, natural resource protection, and even economic development, the Elkins Riverfront Plan was produced.

2022 Water Rate Increase

The Elkins Water Board, which manages the Elkins water system, recommended a 32% rate increase for all customers. It went into effect September 15, 2022.

Waterfront Study

As part of the city’s work with HubCAP, City of Elkins contracted with Pickering Associates to perform a study of development opportunities connected to the Tygart Valley River waterfront area.

The New City Charter

On November 19, 2020, Elkins council adopted a new city charter via the ordinance process authorized by West Virginia Code 8-4-8.

Water Meter Replacement and Billing

We are currently replacing all 4,400 water meters, because their transmitters had begun failing. These “old” meters were and are recording usage correctly, but they stopped transmitting data to the roving vehicle.

Phase II Sewer Project

Elkins Project Dedication

The more city storm drains we can connect to new, dedicated stormwater lines, the more we can reduce the amount of stormwater that enters the wastewater system during heavy rainfall. In turn, this will reduce overflow events.
